Fan Girl

I'm NOT a fan girl, I never have been. I don't follow people, bands, movies...etc. I like what I like but not enough to make me crazy. However, I have found my first weakness...I am so excited that RENT is coming out. I am not a musical freak though I love being in a musical. I went to see Chicago on free movie night at school 6 months after it's release, I hate Grease, Chorus Line makes me gag...I don't know, the dancers will kill me for that one. Don't get me wrong, I like musicals...some, and I watch musicals because it is my art and I want to get better, especially the dancing and vocals. However, I'm not the follower type. I don't know what it is about RENT though that makes me excited. For the first time ever I want to go see something the DAY it is released. I got the soundtrack a couple weeks ago on a whim and didn't start listening to it for at least a week after I bought it. And that was it, I was hooked. I love the music. I love the story. Perhaps it's forbidden fruit. When it went on tour in 1997 a friend of mine bought he and I tickets and my parents said NO NO NO! A muscal with junkies, breif nudity on stage, transvestites and the lyrics "sodomy it's between God and me...to S&M", didnt' scream wholesome entertainment to Mum and Dad. However, the story, as I understand it is poingnant and the man who wrote it amazing. He died as I understand it, opening night in 1996, having suffered from AIDS. That could be it too. This story details artists of all kinds in New York. I know the dancers, singers, film hopefuls, the homesexuals, confuseds...

Plus, the leading man is Adam Pascal. When I first started dating Brendon I sent my mom an email with a pic of us. She FREAKED out and replied, saying..."OHMIGOSH, your b/f looks like Adam Pascal!! You know the hunk from AIDA!"...I being broadway dumb had no idea what she was talking about and also a little weireded out by hearing my mom use the word "hunk". I looked him up online. Adam also played Rodger in RENT on broadway. He, previously to his stage career, was the front man of a rock band...I always tell Bren he looks like a rock star to me!

Well, all that to say, I look forward to 11/23 which is when the commercials say that RENT hits theaters. Hopefully it lives up to my excitement :)
