Things Remembered:
As I have mentioned to a few people in conversations this week, I am much happier now than I was as a child. It's funny, I wouldn't go back to my childhood for anything. I love where I am now, I love the life I have now. I am free now of all the lonliness, anxiety, stress and sadness I felt when I was a growing up. But, I don't regret that time either. I am so happy for what I have grown from. So today I was reflecting on all the things I enjoyed growing up and the stuff I miss...here is a little list:
1. I miss the autumn in Ohio. I loved the smell in the air and the cloud formations, unique every season. I miss the thunderstorms, they were amazing! I love the rain! I miss seeing my breath hang in the air.
2. I miss my family and being able to see them everyday, especially my sister and brothers. I miss watching movies with them and hearing them ceaselessy quote EVERYTHING!
3. I miss sharing a room with my sister, and going to dance classes together everyday, and being in rehearsals together and doing our makeup in the car and hanging out together.
4. I loved waking up on Saturdays when I was young and hearing my dad playing the guitar! He drew us in like the pied piper and had us singing "Ragg Mopp" in no time. For my first communion I had a party of little girls in frilly dresses eating cake at my house and my dad played musical chairs music on his guitar. He let all of us sing in the microphone ( a huge deal for 8 year olds!).
5. I miss seeing my grandparents at least twice a year. I miss my grandpa spending time with us, teaching us how to build things, retelling his CCC Camp stories. He used to have coloring contests with us too.
6. I miss being completely optimistic, pure of mind and really, hoplessly romantic.
7. I miss having a house to go home to. I miss being part of an "us". I miss seeing my favorite weeping willow from my window.
8. I loved the snow, shoveling the driveway and sledding on the hill in my backyard.
9. I loved how my parents celebrated every holiday, season and minor event like it was Christmas. we always had candles, decorations, magic!
10. I miss babysitting my little brother. I got to spend so much time with him when we were young. He is going to be seventeen in two weeks!
