Opportunity?

Well, the interview went well. The company is a self owned dance studio, new to the Irvine location, open about 4 years now. It was really cool, the guy asked to see my choreography and he really liked it! Then he had me jump into a company rehearsal and just try to pick up as quick as possible. It was fun. What it boils down to is he wants someone who can pick up teaching and be in thier performing company by May because one of his girls is moving back East. The performing would start right away. I would take (FREE!!) classes in Hip-Hop, Salsa, Belly-dancing and Persian dancing. Until May I would only teach one or two classes and fill in teaching. He likes that I am proficient in Jazz and wants me to start choreographing for the company...he said start thinking and creating now and he'll use it both for the recital in May and then for the performing company! Woo hoo! The glitch...per the other Belly-dancing company I just quit I cannot perform for anyone that she performs for...for a whole 12 months! I asked the guy (because he knew of the woman and the company)if he was in competition with her..he said as of now no b/c they were in different areas and she had been in business longer (I know that his company is not as proficient as hers yet) but he said moving quickly in the direction of competition. I told him the issue of the contract but I thought it was only three months. He said no problem, learn the choreography, perform in three months. However, I will just show him the contract and go from there. She lists the venues she works and as long as I don't belly dance at those places I'm fine. But I want to be careful because she seems like the type to prosecute! It's funny, I'm not a bellydancer, never in my wildest did I think I'd have to worry about stuff like that! Jazz, hip-hop...okay, but BELLY DANCING! I had never seen it before the audition for the other company. It's really beautiful dancing, I never realized. And apparently there's a large market for it out here...who knew?

Well, if nothing else I get free classes (three tomorrow!) and hopefully a little extra money. I may be progressing slowly in this town, but I'm working it, making my networks (I'm reminding myself because nearly every day now I a have a suffocating feeling when I think of how I'm 23 and still in this same dancing/admin position while my sister dances full time at sea...no comparisons Crista, each person is different..blah blah blah...ect)
