Santa Barbara!

A week after our trip I will finally write about it. I was really busy this week and I was holding off because I put together this great slide show with music but have been having trouble uploading it...grrrr.

So Friday afternoon Brendon picked me up in the black mustang convertible he rented and we drove up the coast to SB. Painter Beach Girl, you're right, it's absolutely beautiful there!! The traffic wasn't annoying at all as we had the sun on our faces and no time in particular to arrive anywhere. I rarely have nothing planned. The whole weekend was awesome for that fact, we woke up and did what we wanted--no stress, no expectations, no deadlines, no feelings hurt...nothing. Friday we ate at "Moby Dick's" and walked up State street, had wine and cheese, took silly pictures and found a vons to get jelly beans (my favorite food) and margarita flavored malt beer...don't laugh okay, it was fun. Saturday we had breakfast at the hotel and walked around a bit. Then we went to the zoo!! after the zoo we just hopped in the car and drove for a while enjoying the weather. We stopped in Buellton for a McFlurry (cultured, I know) and drove back. Wine and cheese at our hotel again (it's on the house from 5-7 every night) and then we walked around, napped, relaxed. We walked to the peir for a 10:30pm dinner and found that nearly everything closes at 10...even on Saturday!! Crazy! I grew up in conservative Ohio, but everything, nearly everything is open till 2am or 24 hours...grocery stores, video stores, restaurants. Sunday was really nice, we checked out at 11 and drove to the Santa Barbara Mission for Noon Mass. I grew up Catholic and it was really nice to attend a mass in such a beautiful place after such a beautiful weekend. I have been stressed out for a good long time now. Work, leaving for Japan, relationship crazyness, family stuff...you know, the normal things. and to have a weekend with quiet and not so many people in my head was really nice. It made Mass on Sunday theraputic. Then we took a self-guided tour of the Mission. so many cool things to see and crazy pictures! We finished off our trip with lunch at The Shoreline where we were served at a table IN THE SAND on the beach. Brendon said the ahi tacos were "The best fish tacos I've ever had" and if you know Brendon he doesn't say that about stuff. He's a stickler for "best ever's" being reserved for THE ONE THING that is the BEST ever (which happens to be whiskey right?). Then the drive home with the top down. It was great. A birthday gift I will always remember and good memories to send me away with for three months as opposed to the other stuff. And if I can get the slide show up I will. But I am a sorry excuse for a geek.

We stayed at the West Beach Inn. I totally recommend it! It was gorgeous, HUGE room, big bed and couch with fold-a-bed, harbor view, large balcony (with which to gaze at the harbor!), kitchenette, I really can't do it justice, it was great! and I saw Hilary :)
