Fly Away
I tried to tell you where I was
I'm fragile, trust is fragile
You said you knew just how it went
you'd be careful, very careful
How could I think you'd hurt me still,
with all I've known of the past I knew you would
I said "you will"
but step by step this frightened bird
took one crumb at a time toward you
cautious first
sit and wait to see what you would do
impatient you, threw your hand
and frightened off what little trust
this little bird knows the cost
and knows just what that means
I fly away
I'm fragile, trust is fragile
You said you knew just how it went
you'd be careful, very careful
How could I think you'd hurt me still,
with all I've known of the past I knew you would
I said "you will"
but step by step this frightened bird
took one crumb at a time toward you
cautious first
sit and wait to see what you would do
impatient you, threw your hand
and frightened off what little trust
this little bird knows the cost
and knows just what that means
I fly away

Beautiful!
Hi,
It’s been ages since I had a peek here, and hope you don’t feel its odd or an intrusion for me to come back.
I have to say I love this poem – it really speaks to me between the lines. Its literal, but there’s something underneath the skin that makes this almost optimistic – the closing of a door on something you can’t bear to look at anymore so you can move on and find brighter days.
Hate is a Strong Word is also every bit as good as the comments on the post say it is.
If you fancy taking a punt and sharing some more poems with a random Brit, swing by my blog (http://chrisfosten.blogspot.com) and leave a comment or I think my email address is on there somewhere... If you don’t I won’t be offended!
Chris.
Thanks for getting back to me!
I've had a look around my blog, and you'll find my email address on my profile anyway, so feel free to get in touch and I'll send you some poems! If you'd rather not go via emails, then maybe we can think of something else - a blog or something.
Anyway, look forward to hearing from you!
