Dancers Vs. Acrobats
I was a dancer first. I am a trained dancer, University educated. The first rule you learn in dance is that you are a dime a dozen and if you want to make your mark you have to have something different and you have to stand up against the onslought of females who want you dead. Girls are cordial but don't DON'T help each other (much...on rare occasions but thats usually once you are cast in a job together). Girls are saccharine sweet (saccharine, my friends, can cause cancer).
When I started this acrobatic stuff I kept my professional guard up. I never asked for help because you don't do that as a dancer...dancers don't want to help you that could mean thier job. Every acrobat female I have met has told me about upcoming auditions, offered to help me with tricks FOR FREE and suggested we go to class together. I was suspicious...they want me dead right? or at least to suck really bad? No, acrobats want to be the best they can be. They push limits, they come up with new stuff, they are a family. I love my acrobat family and I feel so lucky, so very lucky.
