Athletic Jealousy!
Sooooo.... I have been reading Stronger's blog for three years now (I think). I found her via "Next Blog" during a boring day at the office right after I started blogging. and now she is like my sister! She is one of a small handfull of blogs I read everytime I am online.
I am an energetic active person. I dance for a living (or jump around, do aerial work...whatever they'll pay me for really). I grew up playing soccer, baseball, tennis, diving, swimming, gymnastics. I was into everything. Everything EXCEPT running sports. No track for me. I don't know why I just never was good at running or jogging. I biked ameaturely, I swam competitively, I rollerbladed. But I love reading about Stronger and her Triathelite Ironman friends. They are a family and so passionate. I signed up for the Danskin Tri with Melanie a few years ago (a joint birthday gift) but neither of us knew how to train for it and didn't and so we withdrew. Boo. I have, for years done cardio religiously. I walk miles and miles and jog up and down the steps at the beach. I do the elliptical and the treadmill but I walk. I read the runners blogs and salivate at thier talk of shoes and trails and goals (and pink accessories).
And now, NOW I have made my very own athletic friend!! with Maia I am training towards....the Disney Half Marathon!! That's right people. And Maia speaks of running shoes and a place where they cater to your foot..it's tilts and individuality. Maia has running clothes and running lingo and training plans. and she is training with ME!!
Now, I am slow and she is a runner already. We go to the gym for our "long run days" and she runs a full 9 miles while I briskly walk about 6. I try to jog a mile or more on "short run days" (by myself, I am embarrassed at my lack of endurence). But I have a great shining hope that one day, ONE DAY I will speak of shoes and shorts and trails with a flourish and I will understand what it's like to be...an Athlete!
That day is in August. At Disney Land. The Happiest Place on Earth!
